Everglades National Park

Florida

Everglades National Park has three entrances, in Homestead, Miami (Shark Valley) and Everglades City, and the National Park Service notes that the park's entrances do not connect, so the starting point decides which part of the park a visitor sees. The Homestead entrance leads to the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, which is open 365 days a year with exhibits, orientation films and brochures, and to the Royal Palm area, where the 0.8-mile round-trip, wheelchair-accessible Anhinga Trail winds through sawgrass marsh. Entry is $35* per private vehicle (good for 7 days), or $20* per person on foot or bicycle with ages 15 and under free; non-U.S. residents aged 16 and over pay an additional $100* unless they hold an annual or America the Beautiful pass, and the park does not accept cash. The park describes a busy dry season (typically December through April) and a rainy wet season (May to November) that can produce a lot of mosquitoes, and posts closures on its Alerts & Conditions page.
