Parowan Gap

Utah

Parowan Gap is a three-mile-long pass through the Red Hills; the Bureau of Land Management says it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes many petroglyphs of native people, markings from Spanish explorers and 19th-century pioneers. The Utah Geological Survey counts over 90 panels showing over 1,500 carvings and notes several modern interpretations of the Zipper Glyph, among them a travel map and a solar calendar. The BLM lists a small gravel parking lot off Gap Road with 15 spaces, an accessible vault toilet, benches, interpretive signs and a concrete path to the main concentration of petroglyphs, with no running water; it warns that the crosswalk over Gap Road has no stop sign and traffic moves quickly, and its page states no fee or hours. The Survey places the BLM-managed Parowan Gap Dinosaur Track Site about 2 more miles along Gap Road.
