Rabbit Valley Trail Through Time and Mygatt-Moore Quarry

Colorado

The Rabbit Valley Trail Through Time, a Bureau of Land Management site, begins at the Mygatt-Moore Quarry, where visitors can view active dinosaur fossil excavations during certain times of the year, and a 1.5-mile loop trail continues beyond the quarry with interpretive signs about in-place dinosaur bones, fossilized plants and views of Rabbit Valley. Fossils preserved here include Diplodocus, Camarasaurus, Apatosaurus and Allosaurus. The BLM lists the site as open year-round with no fees; it is limited to day use, with pit toilets at the gravel parking lot and no potable water, and it is reached from I-70 Exit 2 (Rabbit Valley) by turning north and following the signs to the Trail Through Time parking area. Paleontologists sometimes lead community tours and digs at the quarry, the BLM says to contact Dinosaur Journey Museum for details, and excavation dates are not given on the BLM page.

Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway runs within 1.6 miles: the Federal Highway Administration designates it a National Scenic Byway, 480 miles through CO, UT.
