Timpanogos Cave National Monument

Utah

Timpanogos Cave National Monument offers ranger-guided cave tours of a cave filled with twisting helictites; visitors must be on a tour to enter, and each tour begins and ends at the visitor center with a self-guided mile-and-a-half hike on a narrow, steep path with steep drop-offs on one side. There is no cost to enter the park; a regular cave tour ticket is $2 to $12* depending on age, tickets can be reserved up to 30 days ahead, regular tours are limited to 16 people, and the NPS says tours are very popular and sell out in advance. The NPS says tour seasons typically run from May/June through September/October, and its conditions page says tours generally open late May and run through early October, so mid-October tour availability is unconfirmed (call 801-756-5239). The monument is on Highway 92 in American Fork Canyon, 10 miles east of I-15, and the NPS directions use I-15 exit 284 (Alpine-Highland).
