Route 66 stretches 2,400 miles across the country, but fewer than 14 of those miles are in Kansas, in the state's southeast corner. According to the National Park Service, Kansas is the only state that was completely bypassed when the interstate replaced Route 66 in 1961, because I-44 runs from Missouri to Oklahoma just east of the state line.
